Bright living room in a renovated Barnes house

Case study · Barnes, south-west London

Designer-led home transformation in Barnes

A full renovation in Barnes with an interior designer: sprayed kitchen cabinetry, decoration throughout, restored period features and the exterior.

The brief

Working alongside an interior designer, we were asked to deliver the decoration of a full residential renovation in Barnes, from start to finish. The designer had created a detailed scheme for the house, and our role was to bring it to life: every colour, finish and detail carried out exactly as specified.

The work covered the whole property. Inside, that meant spraying the kitchen cabinetry, decorating every room to the designer's specification and restoring the home's original period features. Outside, the exterior was redecorated so the house was finished to the same standard inside and out.

The challenge

Designer-led projects ask more of a decorator than a standard redecoration. Colours are chosen with care and often deep or saturated, finishes vary from room to room, and the details, from panelling to paint sheen, are part of the design. The finish has to be precise enough that the scheme looks the way the designer intended.

The house also combined new and old. The kitchen cabinetry needed a smooth, hard-wearing finish to rival a factory spray, while the original period features needed patient restoration rather than a quick coat of paint. On the outside, the exterior had to be prepared properly so it would stand up to the weather and match the quality of the interior.

Our approach

  • Close collaboration with the designer. We worked with the interior designer throughout the project, agreeing colours, sheens, samples and sequencing so the scheme was delivered exactly as planned
  • Kitchen spraying. The kitchen cabinetry was carefully prepared, primed and sprayed to a smooth, factory-quality finish
  • Decorating throughout. Walls, ceilings and woodwork in every room were decorated to the designer's specification, including feature rooms such as the panelled and wallpapered cloakroom
  • Restoring period features. Original details were cleaned back, repaired and refinished so they kept their character and sat comfortably alongside the new work. Read more about our specialist and heritage finishes
  • Exterior redecoration. The outside of the house was prepared and repainted so the property was finished to the same high standard inside and out

Working with interior designers

Interior designers need a decorating team they can trust in their clients' homes: one that follows the specification, raises questions early and protects the finished rooms. On this project we acted as an extension of the designer's team, giving them one contractor for the sprayed joinery, the interior decoration, the period restoration and the exterior.

That approach means fewer trades on site, a single point of contact and a consistent finish across every part of the house. It is how we work with designers across south-west London.

The result

The renovation was completed as a complete home transformation. The designer's scheme was delivered throughout, the kitchen has a smooth, factory-quality sprayed finish, the period features have been restored, and the exterior now matches the standard of the interior.
