Painting, decorating and wallpapering a Hampshire horse stud

The brief

A working horse stud and stables in Hampshire asked us for a high-quality decorating package across three distinct areas of the site. Each area had its own purpose, its own finish specification and its own practical demands:

• The tack room and staff accommodation, to be decorated with carefully selected wallpaper
• The masonry areas of the stable block, to be painted with a premium masonry system suited to a working environment
• The coffee room, to be finished to a high decorative standard

The stud needed one contractor who could handle all three, from delicate wallpaper hanging to hard-wearing masonry coatings, without disrupting the running of the yard.

The challenge

A working stud is not a normal decorating site. The horses, the staff and the daily routine come first, so the facility stayed fully operational throughout. Our team had to work around feeding, mucking out, deliveries and the movement of horses, keeping access routes clear and the site safe at all times.

The three areas also needed completely different approaches. Patterned wallpaper demands precise setting out and pattern matching, especially around windows, worktops and corners. Masonry in a stable environment has to cope with damp, knocks, cleaning and constant use. The coffee room needed a clean, refined decorative finish for staff and visitors.

Our approach

• Wallpapering the tack room and staff accommodation. Walls were prepared and lined where needed, then the chosen wallpaper was hung precisely throughout, with the pattern set out so it ran unbroken around windows, worktops and internal corners and up to the ceiling line
• Premium masonry painting. The blockwork in the stable block was cleaned, prepared and painted with a premium masonry paint system chosen for durability and breathability in a working environment
• Coffee room decoration. The coffee room was decorated to a high standard, giving staff a bright, clean and comfortable space
• Working around the yard. We planned each area in sequence with the stud team, kept work areas tidy and safe, and made sure the facility could carry on as normal every day

Specialist decorating for commercial and rural sites

Equestrian sites, estates and rural businesses need a decorator who understands that the work must fit around the operation, not the other way round. We bring the same planning we use on commercial projects in London, with clear programmes, safe working and tidy sites, and combine it with the finish quality of high-end residential decorating.

On this project that meant specialist wallpaper hanging in one area, industrial-grade masonry coatings in another and fine decorative work in a third, all delivered by one team.

The result

Each of the three areas was completed to its own specification, on time, within a fully operational facility. The tack room and staff accommodation now have carefully hung, pattern-matched wallpaper, the masonry areas have a durable, clean finish built for daily use, and the coffee room is finished to a high decorative standard.
