School corridor in Twickenham redecorated with durable, hard-wearing coatings

Case study · Twickenham

School sports hall and masonry decorating, Twickenham

A Twickenham school sports hall and external masonry redecorated with thorough preparation and hard-wearing coatings, in term time with minimal disruption.

The brief

A school in Twickenham asked us to redecorate its sports hall and the external masonry areas around it. Both are among the hardest-working surfaces in any school: the sports hall takes knocks from balls, equipment and hundreds of pupils every week, and external masonry faces the weather all year round.

The school needed a clean, professional finish that would last, and it needed the work done during term time without getting in the way of lessons, PE and the daily running of the school.

The challenge

Decorating a school during term time means working around the timetable. Pupils, staff and visitors are on site every day, so work areas have to be safe, separated and tidy, and noisy or disruptive tasks have to be planned around the school day.

The surfaces themselves also needed extensive preparation. Sports hall walls build up scuffs, marks and damage over years of use, and external masonry can suffer from flaking paint, dirt and weathering. Without proper preparation, even the best coating will not last in an environment like this.

Our approach

  • Careful planning around the school. We agreed a tight programme with the school, scheduling work so it caused minimal disruption to lessons, PE and daily operations
  • Extensive preparation. Surfaces in the sports hall and on the external masonry were cleaned, repaired and prepared thoroughly before any coatings went on
  • Durable, hard-wearing coatings. We applied durable, hard-wearing coatings throughout, chosen to stand up to impact, cleaning and weather
  • Safe, tidy working. Work areas were kept safe and separated from pupils and staff, and left clean at the end of each shift

Decorating schools without disruption

Schools need decorators who understand safeguarding, safe working and the realities of a busy site. Our school painting service covers classrooms, corridors, halls, sports facilities and external areas, delivered in term time or during the holidays depending on what works best for the school.

On this project, careful planning meant the sports hall and external masonry were transformed within a tight term-time programme, while the school carried on as normal.

The result

The school now has a sports hall and external masonry areas with a clean, professional and long-lasting finish. The work was delivered within a tight programme during term time, with minimal disruption to the school's daily operations.
